The u14 team have been placed in the A league for this season, and met Bridgwater A for their first game. It was a tough match for the Sydenham girls, however, there were some very nice displays of netball from all the players. Particular well done to Kayleigh Leader for fitting in so well.
Players today were Rhiannon, Charlie, Maddie, Hollie, Kayleigh, Libby, Kia and Angel.
The Junior Seeding Tournament took place today at Strode College and Crispin School, Street. The tournament was used to determine which two teams would represent Somerset in the Regional League at u16 and u14 level, and also to sort out the league structure for the u12 and u14 sections.
Both teams took part with great spirit, and will take part in the ongoing fixture starting on 8th October.
Thanks to all mums and dads who came and supported, and to Adele and Amy for umpiring.
Players - Emily, Madison, Nikia, Morgan, Evie, Poppy, Kayleigh, Angel, Hollie, Rhiannon, Maddie, Kia, Charlie, Macey and Rylie.
The u14 team played Bridgwater A today - a very strong team who had just missed out on playing in the Regional league. They played strong and hard against the Sydenham players who fought as hard as they were able to, but lost the match 45-9.
Today’s match was against Yeovil A, the Sydenham players had a more closely fought game, with great defending, from Angel, Kia and Rylie. The score remained close throughout. Excellent centre court play from Hollie, Maddie, and Libby helped shooters Rhiannon and Charlie receive the ball. We did change the team around to offer opportunity to all players to develop their game. The game was won by Yeovil 21-14.
Today’s opponents were Purnell, and the teams were more evenly matched. Kayleigh played in the team today and shone, as little “Pocket-Rockets” often do. She linked well with Hollie, Rhiannon and Charlie. Defensively, Angel, Kia and Rylie worked hard, and at the end of both the first and second quarters, the score was level. Purnell just snook into the lead by the end of the third quarter, and won the game by 5 at the end 29-25. A great team effort from all.
Januray tournament was called off due to weather - to be played in April.
The opponents today were from Tor NC. The game started with Sydenham taking a 2 goal league, but as the first quarter came to an end Tor had levelled at 2 all. Sydenham started slowly in the second quarter, which allowed Tor to ake a strong lead, despite hard work from all the girls, and the game was 8 - 4 to Tor at half time. A great third quarter, saw some impressive interceptions from Rylie and Angel, who together limited Tor’s successful attempts at goal to just 2, whilst Rhiannon and Charlie received some excellent passes into the circle from Hollie and Libby, which they scored from closing the gap to just one goal going into the final quarter. Kayleigh - the little pocket rocket, made some fantastic interceptions, and moved into lovely spaces to help move the ball into Sydenham’s end. The scoreline pulled level and both teams took it in turn to take the lead, and just in the final 3 minutes, Sydenham’s tired legs began to show, allowing Tor to pull away with several goals without response. The final score was 17 - 11 to Tor which did not reflect the great team work and effort that the Sydenham girls put into the game.
Although the u12s are not taking part in the county league, the very young team are playing some friendly games. The first one took place on 15/11/17. The team played Tor NC and Keinton NC. They beat Tor and lost by 4 to Keinton, however, all players really enjoyed themselves and played well. Many of this team are still only 9 or 10 years old, so it was a great credit to Kerry Fellows and Jess Bull that they completed this fixture. They are looking forward to playing against Taunton on 13/12/17. Girls who played: Kayleigh, Morgan, Olivia, Madison, Emily, Bryony, Evie, Nikia and Amber
